Work
Twin Cities Metro magazine (known as METRO) was my first print media job. METRO’s been gone for over a decade now, but this quirky, beloved city magazine lives on in many Twin Citians’ hearts. More than a decade after it ended, dog-eared back issues still circulate via local Little Free Libraries 🫶
Our team scrounged and stretched to make METRO work every month, up against seemingly impossible deadlines and possibly the smallest print budget ever. I started as Web Editor in 2010 and within a year was promoted to Senior Editor. The following year I became Editor in Chief, managing a small team of staffers, interns and freelancers while writing much of the magazine myself, including articles on food, the arts and philanthropy. Along the way I met some of the best writers, editors, designers and photographers in the Twin Cities, and launched two inserts: METRO Well and METRO Home.
A few of my favorite stories I wrote are below.
