One Call Concepts is a Maryland-based leader in the damage prevention industry. Through their SaaS and call center contracts with states across the country, OCC helps keep communities safe by ensuring that underground utilities—gas, electric, telecommunications, water and sewer lines—are not just mapped accurately, but are always marked above ground before excavations.

As the in-house marketing copywriter, I helped OCC better serve and reach clients. But I also helped our clients build trust and confidence among local homeowners and GIS, construction and utility trades via advertising, direct mail, social media, OOH, trainings, events and more. I was also deeply involved in the RFP process when OCC renewed or bid on contracts.

Learn From the Unexpected

I cast the talent and wrote content (scripts, blog posts, social posts) for this ongoing Gopher State One Call campaign designed to help professional excavators and homeowners dig safely and prevent underground utility damages.

Utility Defenders

I wrote content and helped drive content strategy for OCC’s public safety initiative the Utility Defenders, a fictional team of kid superheroes dedicated to underground utility safety. We developed the platform to help our clients engage with parents in their communities, and to foster interest in GIS, utility and construction trades among young people.

CAMO Training Video

I wrote, edited and fact checked scripts for many technical training videos and courses while at OCC. This one, for Louisiana 811 and Coastal and Marine Operators, educated pipeline operators on how to safely and precisely plan their excavations in Louisiana’s delicate coastal areas.

B2B Publications

In addition to ads, OOH and other B2C content geared toward homeowners, I also edited and ghostwrote articles for many damage prevention industry B2B publications, including Excavator Quarterly and dP-Pro. (You can see the full dP-Pro article below by clicking on it.) These were often very complex, technical pieces dealing with specialized utility mapping and geospatial information systems topics.
